When Ser Jorah and Daario Naharis arrived in Vaes Dothrak, the safe assumption was that the bickering pair would find Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and eventually escape with her, but once they found her, she had no interest in sneaking out of the city. Her plans were much more ambitious.
Dany had Ser Jorah and Daario Naharis take out the guards, while she met with the Dothraki leadership in the Temple of the Dosh Khaleen. After being insulted by them, she gives a beautiful speech and coolly walks over to each of the braziers heating and lighting the room and knocks them over, setting the room and its occupants ablaze.
“It’s so exciting, very tingly-making. Every season I get at least one spine-chilling moment,” Clarke told EW. “I just stand up and I go, ‘I’m hearing what you’re all saying, but funny thing, I’m going to kill you all. I forgot that I have an ace in my back pocket and now I win.’”
And while Dany is fireproof, her clothes are not. So when she emerges from the flames, she's in her birthday suit. Proudly, Clarke reveals that what you saw was all her.
“I’d like to remind people the last time I took my clothes off was season 3,” she said. “That was awhile ago. It’s now season 6. But this is all me, all proud, all strong. I’m just feeling genuinely happy I said ‘Yes.’ That ain’t no body double!”
“Emilia absolutely crushed it,” showrunner David Benioff said of the scene. “It’s one of those weird scenes because it was half shot in Spain, half in Belfast. But largely due to her performance, it works brilliantly.”
Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9PM on HBO.
