Comic Book Headlines - Avatar News

Writer/director James Cameron has expanded his vision for the future of Avatar from three sequels to four, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Cameron was a surprise guest at 20th Century Fox's CinemaCon panel, announcing that the sequels would be released annually beginning with the second Avatar on December 28.

"We have decided to embark on a truly massive cinematic process," Cameron said, explaining he decided to expand the Avatar franchise to five movies because "we began to bump up against the limitations for our art form" with only three sequels.

Cameron is reportedly working with "a team of four top screenwriters" for the sequels, with each being standalone that "will together create a saga."

A new logo for James Cameron's Avatar was revealed Thursday evening by 20th Century Fox. The logo accompanied a press release covering the earlier announcement by Cameron that his film would receive four sequels (instead of an initially planned three).

The Avatar sequels are planned to hit in 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2023 - an ambitious plan as the first sequel has struggled to get out of the pre-production phase.
